Okay, here’s the second quote, following up on last week’s blog. As I mentioned, I didn’t write down exactly where the quotes came from, but I do remember that they came from one of the two books in the Monk and the Robot series by Becky Chambers.
The second quote is: “It’s not you. It’s us.”
You know how the phrase “it’s not you, it’s me” is used (usually in a romantic break up) to absorb blame and to minimize conflict? Well, that’s not this.
It’s not about blame. It means you are not alone, no matter what the situation.
Because we’re a society. Because we’re connected. Because collectively, we are us. Not us vs. them. Us.
To expand, it’s not a “you problem”, it’s a “we problem”.
So if you need help, ask. If you think you can help, offer.
It’s not a one size fits all answer, by the way. It’s just a perspective that might come in handy.
In the meantime, remember these things: You are loved. We are all loved. Let’s all be kind. All of the above explains what I mean when I say “And in all things – progress, not perfection!”
Love, and light in the shadows,
Maggie
